Post 5: "Third Rail is Alive"=>Musings on this warning sign found in the Subway...

I saw this sign in the subway station while going to class. The sign caught my attention because of the word alive. Really I think that the MTA was trying to tell me not to go down in the subway tracks (which is really common sense as to why) because the third rail contains a 1200 V (Watts) which essentially can kill anyone.

So I was wondering why the MTA posted the sign the "third rail is alive." In all seriousness, the image that came to my head would be a rail coming to life and trying to eat someone 0.0! I know I am weird -.-. But I think that the warning sign should change to something like "Third Rail carries an electric charge that can kill you."

Of course the sign was really small and that message cannot fit the size of the warning sign. So I wonder what other people think about this. I think this warning sign is good for tourists to know that the third rail carries electricity. I guess that's what the sign really meant when it says third rail is alive.

But I wonder if tourists would understand that the warning sign really is taking about the fact that the third rail carries an electric charge of 1200 V (Watts) and that it can kill anyone?
